Happy Valentine's Day
To celebrate Valentine's Day, I taught my students some dating expressions (to break up, to make up, to date, etc.) and did a short activity in class called "Folding Love Stories." Students were given a piece of paper and had to take turns filling in blanks, folding the paper over so no one could see what they wrote, and passing it to the next person. The blanks they had to fill in were: a boy's name, a girl's name, what he was wearing, what she was wearing, where they met, what he said, what she said, and what happened next. The following stories are what resulted:
- Once upon a time, John and Ryoko met at her bedroom. He was wearing a uniform. She was wearing a one-piece dress and had a pistol. He said, “I’m crazy about you but you said that you wanted to break up with me. So I can’t do it. I love you. Not deserting me.” She said, “Me too. Me too! You are my everything!
He was arrested. - Once upon a time Daichi and Linda met at the gym. He was wearing only a hat. She was wearing a wedding dress. He said, “Are you free now?” She said, “I want to make out.” She married him and she made out again and again.
- Once upon a time Ryo and Masami met at the sea. He was wearing a tank top. She was wearing a kimono. He said, “I have three girlfriends. I want to break up with you.” She said, “You are a player.” Then she said, “I want to make out but your breath is really smells bad. Shall we break up?
- Once upon a time Tom and Yohei met at a movie theater. He was wearing nothing. She was wearing nothing. He said, “We must function as one mind and one body.” She said, “Don’t say it so loud.” Then they go to heaven.
- Once upon a time, Mine and Hida met at a hotel. He was wearing nothing. She was wearing nothing. He said, “I want to make love* with you.” She said, “Me too.” There is a big accident.
*This expression most definitely did not appear on my vocab list.
Happy Valentine's Day!
