Tomu on a Stick
Pain. It's an interesting phenomenon. It involves the activation of nerves and some rather complicated brain processes. And, most of all, it hurts. Today's blog is going to be about some pain I experienced while at an outing at the beach with some of Lee's adult students.
To wish Lee a fond farewell, we played a "traditional Japanese" game that involves hitting a watermelon with a stick. It is every bit as elegant and refined as you might expect but, there is a one catch: you are blindfolded and have to rely on other people to guide you to the melon.
As Lee was the guest of honor, she got to go first:
Oooo... sorry Lee! Nice try but no cigar. But what do you expect? You know what they say: you should never let a woman do a man's job. So, now let's watch macho Tomu have a go at that poor melon like it's his redheaded stepchild:
3. The Hit?
4. The Aftermath
3. The Hit?
4. The AftermathI will not kid you that this was the most intense pain I have every felt. Thankfully Lee was kind enough not to take pictures of me rolling about on the sand and came over to help me get up instead.
I attribute the fact that I missed the watermelon and hit my cojones to my great athleticism. Obviously, I could have taken the easy route and hit the massive watermelon in front of me, but being a sportsman in the purest sense of the word, I challenged to hit a smaller (if only somewhat) target.
Damn, I am good.
P.S.
Do not try this at home.

definitely ranks among the top 10 funniest moments of my life... nothing better than watching 15 Japanese people stand around on the beach and watch a gaijin roll around in pain on the beach. Don't worry, they learned some new English vocabulary: "Golden Balls".
